Dining at the Peacock Room in the Kimpton Hotel Fonenat was pure pleasure during our recent Sunday brunch. It effortlessly blended the eccentric personality of New Orleans’ bar culture with the old-world charm and sophistication of a classic social club. The Peacock Room delivered a bright and vibrant feel during the day while apparently it offers a moody atmosphere come sundown, perfect for an afternoon aperitif, social dinner or an end-of-evening nightcap. The bar was stocked with everything from the classics to hard-to-find spirits, with an impressive collection of rum and madeira and an emphasis on drinks that are light and floral.
I so enjoyed my relaxed brunch which included a Croque Monsier and Crawfish Benedic. The taste was exquisite. The chef has definitely mastered sauces as every bite offered a culinary delight.
An ornate all-day gathering spot that’s equal parts creative French salon and of-the-moment nightspot, the Peacock Room is the crown jewel of Kimpton Hotel Fontenot — a fitting description, given that it feels just like opening an opulent jewel box and reveling in the discovery of its riches. Expect furniture that spans several eras, mosaic-tiled floors, a menagerie of prints and patterns, and punch-bowl cocktails served from a 19th-century bar. Don’t be surprised to find yourself sipping alongside the city’s best-known tastemakers.
