La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the storied history of its home, a more than century-old building that’s acted as a cornerstone of the community throughout the years – as a coffee and tea depot, grocery store, butcher shop, florist’s studio, and since 2004, a restaurant. Located in the Garden District in New Orleans, this restaurant is a delight for those wanting a cozy establishment to enjoy local cuisine.
After Hurricane Katrina, Chef Justin Devillier and wife, Mia, helped rebuild the infrastructure of La Petite Grocery and took over ownership of the Uptown restaurant in 2010. Here, Devillier puts his creative spin on traditional New Orleans cuisine with much-loved dishes like Turtle Bolognese and Blue Crab Beignets.
Note: They opened sister restaurant, Justine, a lively brasserie in the French Quarter, in early 2019.
Both restaurants have earned local and national acclaim. In 2016, Chef Devillier was named the James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: South, and the restaurant has earned a spot on Eater’s list of 38 Best Restaurants in America.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner at La Petite Grocery before a Ghost Walk in the French Quarter. The decor is lovely and the staff very attentive.
Food was outstanding. Because we were going to be on a walk for several hours, we chose to share our entrees. We dined on spaghetti with shrimp and peas and a burger along with some lovely drinks. Our daughter joined us and was able to walk the area enjoying the fantastic architecture.
